Wall Art Festival in Inawashiro 2018
2018
Inawashiro, Fukushima, Japan
—
Clay, pigments
This is the first participation in the Wall Art Project Fukushima in Inawashiro.
The wall paintings scattered around the school were deployed outdoors to each spot like flags connecting them.
The motifs of people, plants, and animals encountered during fieldwork in Inawashiro were painted with Inawashiro soil and pigments. In front of the Ojima Elementary School building, at a cafe where people enjoy the autumn leaves, under a large persimmon tree behind the Museum of Beginning, and in the precincts of the Tsuchitsu Shrine. The backgrounds for the paintings are vivid. I painted vividly with pigments, determined not to be outdone. I painted with a mindset as if I were fighting nature rather than people.
On the day of the festival, she invited children who were nearby to paint with soil.
I think this spontaneous effort was the forerunner of the workshops that followed.
