ARTIST STATEMENT
In an age when the boundaries between machines, nature, and human society are increasingly dissolving, I seek ways of coexisting with more-than-human beings by temporarily setting aside a human-centered perspective.
My practice uncovers techniques and traditions embedded within local landscapes that are gradually disappearing, translating them into painting through an animistic perspective. In doing so, I reconsider ancestral knowledge as a way of understanding how we might live in contemporary society, offering it as a renewed form of inquiry into life itself.
To realize this, I collect pigments from the land and create works together with the people who live there. Through the filter of painting, I bring visibility to the small-scale practices, skills, and everyday acts that are often overlooked in our information-driven society, revealing the vivid presence of life that resides within them. Rather than consuming places as temporary events, I preserve the knowledge and character of each landscape within painting, carrying these memories forward into the future.
My practice also seeks to connect communities that might never otherwise encounter one another, creating environments akin to brackish waters, where freshwater and seawater converge to sustain rich and diverse forms of life. Traveling from place to place, gathering pigments, and creating paintings in collaboration with local people is, for me, a way of cultivating these fertile spaces of encounter and coexistence.
